Hurricane Rita - 10 Years Later - Just 10 years ago, at 2:40 am on September 24, 2005 the eye of Hurricane Rita crossed the southwest Louisiana coast at Holly Beach with sustained winds of 120mph and an 18 foot storm surge. Rita was the most devastating hurricane to impact southwest Louisiana since category 4 Hurricane Audrey in 1957.
