From the President's Desk

December 2019

Hello TFMA,

First on behalf of TFMA, I would like to wish everyone a (belated) safe and happy holiday season (Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad, Frohliche Weihnachten, Buon Natale, Joyeux Noel, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, etc.) and success and happiness in 2020.As a year comes to a close, I want to provide a brief update on recent accomplishments and a brief look to the new year ahead.

Below is a listing of various topics. To learn more about the topic, click on the topic and information will be provided!

TFMA Budget - click here to be directed to the TFMA website to view these documents.

Being involved with the preparation of the budget for the first time, I noted the following:

·      The budget considers expenditures and income TFMA experienced during recent years and what we are projecting for 2020.

·      The budget takes a lot of time to prepare.  Thanks to the help from the TFMA office (Selina and Markie) and our Treasurer (Stephanie Griffin) we have a budget.  Thank you!

·      We generate most of our income from our conferences.  Please continue to support our conferences.

·      The more income, the more money can be used for outreach and training.

·      For 2020, in addition to the two TFMA conferences (Annual and Technical Summit) we conduct, ASFPM will be conducting their National Conference in Fort Worth.  We will need to monitor our budget to see if it is impacted by the ASFPM conference.

·      The amount of fees (which is minimal), we get from conducting training helps offset the amount it costs us to conduct the training.

Finally in 2020, we will see the transition of Roy Sedwick from being our Executive Director, to his new role within TFMA.  With the help of office staff (Markie and Selina), Deputy Executive Director (Wes Birdwell) and board members, we are all helping with this transition.  Talking with Roy there are still many things he wants to help with.  Look for future emails regarding Roy’s role with TFMA.

To help me not lose focus as I lead TFMA, I want to restate my goals of being your president:

·      Listen to your concerns and ideas, Evaluate what action should be taken, and then Implement a valuable action.

·      Be as transparent as possible.

·      Energize the membership, the Board and committee members to increase involvement and improve commitment.

·      Continue and increase continuing education and training.

·      Maintain and strengthen our relationships with local, state and federal agencies.

Again, have a happy holiday season!  If you have any questions, ideas or comments regarding TFMA, please send them to the TFMA office ( or me
